For 2014, the X5 receives a top-to-bottom redesign. Exterior The X5 has a noticeably wide and athletic stance, along with a bold grille and striking lower-intake accents. In profile, the upward tilt of the crossover's beltline is matched by upswept character lines that dress the side panels. The rear fascia features horizontally oriented taillights and a sizable bumper. Base models are equipped with 18-inch wheels, foglights, a power liftgate, a panoramic sunroof and adaptive xenon headlights. In terms of cargo space, the X5 provides 22.9 cubic feet of room behind the second row and 66 cubic feet with the second row lowered. The lineup of standard interior features includes a power-adjustable tilt-and-telescoping steering column, dual-zone automatic climate control, simulated leather upholstery and heated 10-way power-adjustable front seats with memory settings. Optional equipment includes leather upholstery, 16-way power-adjustable front seats, a heated steering wheel, heated rear seats and ventilated front seats. Performance With the X5, you can expect athletic, engaging handling. Rear-wheel drive and an eight-speed automatic transmission are standard, and all-wheel drive is offered for better grip in rain and snow. The X5's standard power plant is a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline six-cylinder engine. It produces 300 horsepower and 300 pound-feet of torque. A turbocharged six-cylinder diesel engine is also offered, and it makes 255 horsepower and 413 pound-feet of torque. The most powerful engine choice is a 4.4-liter V8 good for 445 horsepower and 480 pound-feet of torque. Gas-powered X5 SUVs achieve fuel economy of up to 19/27 mpg city/highway. WIth the diesel powertrain, fuel economy comes in at 23/31 mpg. Technology The X5's lineup of tech amenities includes a broad array of available safety features. Base models come with Bluetooth phone and streaming audio, front and rear parking sensors, a 10.2-inch display screen, navigation, a USB interface, HD radio and a nine-speaker sound system.
